It's high time our busy offices take responsibility for the substantial amount of paper used and look at ways to reduce it. Or go paper light, as is the trend to call it nowadays. And what better way to do this than sit down and look into the stats of our paper-hungry behaviour?

Going back to 2020 when our employee headcount was around the 800 mark, out of which 271 employees had printer access, our usage for the whole year totaled a whopping... 465,654 papers averaging 581 papers per year per employee!

Then 2021 rolled around which was when most of our workforce returned to the office. A considerable rise in numbers was expected. So without further ado... the grand total for papers printed in 2021 was... wait for it...

648,907 papers! Talk about a busy year for our stumpy friend in the corner!

The departments that printed the most were: Quality Assurance, HR, Finance, and Revenue Accounting so we worked with these departments to find procedures or systems we can take on board for a greener workplace.

And as alarming as these stats are, without any effort from our side, they can not start to decrease. As of October 2022, we adopted the changes necessary to become a more eco-conscious team! And as of now from October to December 2022 the total number of printed pages stands at 17,510!

Going paper-light should be the obvious choice for everyone however it stands to reason that going totally paperless is not feasible for many companies. Industries are very much paper reliant and it takes a whole lot of time and effort to switch to paperless. Yet, the goal still remains: create a shift in our paper-loving habits because we believe that a lot of people doing it imperfectly is much better than a few doing it perfectly.
